Ever since Swatch released its “Royal Pop” teaser last week, the watch community has been gripped by a frenzy of speculation regarding the brand’s next major partnership. While social media was flooded with fan-made mockups predicting a Bioceramic wristwatch replica of the iconic Royal Oak, the official reveal has unveiled a far more daring and unexpected concept. Audemars Piguet and Swatch have officially introduced the “Royal Pop,” a disruptive collection of eight Bioceramic models that reimagine fine watchmaking through the lens of Pop Art and “positive provocation,” inspired by the original 1980’s Swatch POP collection.
Breaking free from the wrist entirely, the Royal Pop is designed to fundamentally redefine how time is worn. Each timepiece comes equipped with a high-quality calfskin lanyard featuring contrast stitching, allowing it to be worn around the neck, attached to a handbag or tucked into a pocket. For those who prefer a stationary view, a removable stand transforms the piece into a playful desk watch.
The collection consists of eight distinct colorways — a direct nod to the octagonal bezel and eight signature screws of the original 1972 Royal Oak. The lineup is split into two configurations: six Lépine-style models with a 12 o’clock crown and two-hand display and two Savonnette-style models featuring a 3 o’clock crown paired with a small seconds subdial.
HUIT BLANC stands out with its pristine white Bioceramic case and a bezel uniquely accented by screws in eight different hues. Vibrant pairings like the pink and cherry red OTTO ROSSO or the navy and orange ORENJI HACHI utilize contrasting stitching on their respective calfskin lanyards to amplify their playful character. The Savonnette models, LAN BA and OTG ROZ, offer the most complex visual depth, the latter combining teal, pink and yellow tones with specialized movement color schemes visible through transparent casebacks.
Beneath the vibrant Bioceramic cases lies a powerhouse of modern engineering: a new hand-wound iteration of Swatch’s fully automated SISTEM51 movement. Protected by 15 active patents, this movement provides a 90-hour power reserve and features the anti-magnetic Nivachron™ balance spring, a component originally co-developed with Audemars Piguet. The inner workings are partially visible through a sapphire caseback, which highlights a patented barrel drum that serves as a visual power reserve indicator.
The Audemars Piguet x Swatch Royal Pop collection will be available exclusively at select Swatch retail locations beginning May 16, 2026. To manage the anticipated demand, purchases are strictly limited to one watch per person, per day. 100% of Audemars Piguet’s proceeds from the partnership will fund a dedicated initiative for preserving rare watchmaking savoir-faire and fostering the next generation of horological talent.
