Nike is bringing back the Air Rift 2 “Kenya” in 2026, with a release anticipated through the brand’s SNKRS platform. The shoe, originally launched in 2002 as an evolution of the 1995 Air Rift, returns in a women’s “Black/Team Dark Green/Fire Red” colorway that ties the silhouette directly to its performance running roots.

The Air Rift 2 is worth distinguishing from its predecessor. Where the original Air Rift was spare and running-specific, the Rift 2 takes the same split-toe foundation and builds something fuller around it — a bootie-like interior, a thicker and more constructed sole, and pocketed side paneling that connects it visually to the broader family of experimental Nike silhouettes from the early 2000s. The tabi-inspired split at the forefoot remains the silhouette’s defining feature, extending underneath the shoe to bridge the two generations without making the Rift 2 feel like a straightforward rehash.

The “Kenya” colorway carries specific weight within the Rift’s history. The Black base is broken by Team Dark Green and Fire Red in a combination that directly echoes the Kenyan flag, referencing both the original Air Rift’s design brief and Nike’s deep and well-documented connection to Kenyan distance running. The original Air Rift was built with Kenyan runners in mind, and the colorway has functioned as a homecoming palette for the silhouette ever since. Bringing it back on the Rift 2 is a considered choice rather than a convenient one.
