Louis Vuitton’s Cruise 2027 collection was a colorful art-inspired spectacle that took over New York City’s The Frick Collection. The unconventional shoe is somewhat of a technical collision, borrowing the supportive, structured high-top build typical of basketball uppers and dropping it onto the grounded, flat-soled foundation of a martial arts shoe. The laceless, slip-on construction amplifies its futuristic sensibility, lent by metallic colorways. The shoes appear in a selection of lustrous finishes—silver, gold, metallic lavender, and blue—alongside solid black and white leather colorways, cementing their versatility.
But Nicolas Ghesquière’s latest Cruise show is more than just a spectacle; the designer described his show as a cultural bridge between Paris and New York. Drawing from pop art, pop culture, and pop luxury, the footwear range and apparel heavily feature the artwork of Keith Haring. Haring’s inclusion is no random integration; it stems from the discovery of a 1930s Louis Vuitton leather suitcase that Haring reworked as a canvas for his art.
