Hypegolf Photo Essay: Early Nine at Silver Lake Golf Course
A seasonal visual archive of modern golf atmosphere.
Golf season has finally arrived in the Northeast. As New Yorkers, public transportation is our main way of getting to most municipal courses around the five boroughs.
None of us had played Silver Lake before, and we wanted a new challenge. Taking the Staten Island Ferry at sunrise—with the skyline in the background—was one of those magical moments that stay etched in your memory. I’ve photographed golf for a while, but never on film, so shooting with a camera from the 1950s with no autofocus and all manual settings forced me to slow down.
I figured the process—combined with the nostalgic film vibe—would best translate the peace and quiet from an early round with low sun and morning dew. It captured a nice walk in nature away from the city buzz.
