  • At Watches and Wonders 2026, Cartier unveils the Crash Skeleton and obsidian Santos-Dumont
  • The Roadster returns alongside the Baignoire Clou de Paris and flamboyant Myst de Cartier
  • These novelties merge high jewelry craftsmanship with extraordinary, technical shaped movements

As the “Watchmaker of Shapes,” Cartier‘s collection for Watches & Wonders 2026 transcends mere timekeeping to reveal the very essence of its savoir-faire. From the revival of high-octane legends like the Roadster to the technical distortion of the Crash, Cartier continues to challenge itself to merge form and function. This year’s repertoire is a masterful orchestration of over a hundred disciplines brought together at the Maison’s Swiss Manufacture, where the jeweler’s eye and the watchmaker’s hand converge.

Cartier Prive Crash Skeleton in Platinum

The Cartier Privé collection turns to the legendary Crash for its 10th edition — a design born in 1967 that remains an undisputed icon of asymmetrical artistry. The cult design is reimagined in a skeletonized platinum form that appears more distorted than ever, as if the crown itself has dragged the movement downward into its irregular frame. Its mechanical heart of the piece is the Manufacture 1967 MC movement, a manual-winding technical feat composed of 142 components specifically developed to harmonize with the watch’s singular, melting aesthetic.

The artisanal complexity is most evident in the movement’s bridges, which are meticulously shaped into Roman numerals and hammered by hand. Limited to 150 numbered pieces, each piece requires nearly two hours of high-precision decorative work, ensuring that the moving parts become one with the signature aesthetic of the dial. This construction, a patented Cartier hallmark, ensures that the technique remains entirely at the service of the watch’s flamboyant silhouette.

Santos-Dumont Watch in Yellow Gold With Obsidian Dial

The Santos-Dumont, a great classic of the design world, is reinterpreted for 2026 with vintage accents that highlight the Maison’s legacy of innovation. The centerpiece of this new version is a dial crafted from gilded obsidian, a Mexican volcanic stone characterized by iridescent reflections created by tiny air bubbles trapped within the material. At just 0.3 mm in depth, the stone is as delicate as glass, presenting a significant material challenge for the craftsmen at the Cartier Manufacture.

Complementing the iridescent dial is a new yellow gold bracelet that balances incredible finesse with extreme flexibility. Inspired by the first made-to-measure metal bracelets developed by the Maison in the 1920s, this modern iteration features ultra-slim 1.15 mm links. Each section is composed of four rows of links, totaling 394 elements that have been machined, finished, and assembled in Switzerland to unfold with infinite delicacy against the skin.

Cartier Baignoire in Yellow Gold

The Baignoire watch undergoes a rhythmic metamorphosis this year, adorned with the clou de Paris motif — a signature element of Cartier’s vocabulary since the early ’20s. Crafted in monochrome yellow gold, this motif adds architectural structure to the watch’s curved volumes, creating a seamless aesthetic continuity between the dial and the bracelet. To preserve the evenness of the shape, the gold is molded using specific expertise, while the proportions have been expertly reshaped to allow the push-buttons to blend into the curve of the piece.

True to Cartier’s jewelry heritage, the watch is polished entirely by hand to reveal its brilliance without wearing down the sharp reliefs of the gold. The design is further elevated by a masterclass in gem-setting, featuring 100 brilliant-cut diamonds snow-set across the dial. These are contrasted by inverted pavilion diamonds on the case, creating a sophisticated play of light that magnifies the watch’s sculptural presence.

Myst de Cartier Watch in Yellow Gold

Playing with mystery and volume, the Myst de Cartier celebrates the historic connection between the Maison’s high jewelry and watchmaking sectors. Defined by alternating curves and a domed crystal, the watch features a geometric pavé dial framed by a delicate onyx border and a singular triangular hour-marker. This bold symmetry is enhanced by hand-applied black lacquer spots, placed one by one by master craftsmen at the Maison des Métiers d’Art in Switzerland to evoke the sculptural, flamboyant style championed by Jeanne Toussaint in the 1930s.

The technical complexity of the Myst is matched by its gem-setting, requiring 112 hours of labor to create a unique architecture where stones of different sizes create a sense of perspective. Through extensive research and development, the watch is strung on an elastic strap without a clasp, allowing the precious, lacquered sections to slip onto the wrist with ease. This creation stands as a testament to Cartier’s ability to turn industrial constraints into flamboyant design objects.

Cartier Roadster

Following its original launch in 2002, the Roadster makes its grand return to the watchmaking scene with sharpened lines and redefined proportions. Borrowing bold codes from the world of mechanical fuselages and automobile design, the new model focuses on ergonomic form without altering its iconic streamlined shape. This harmony is achieved through a bezel and case that perfectly integrate the crown and magnifier into a unified whole. Depending on the model size, the Roadster is powered by either the 1847 MC self-winding movement (large) or the 1899 MC (medium), illustrating the Maison’s balanced approach to mechanics and aesthetics.
