RIMOWA Revives 1969 Archives With the Classic Aluminium Grid Collection
A geometric reinterpretation of the German luggage maker’s iconic grooved design.
Summary
- RIMOWA is set to release a limited-edition Classic Aluminium Grid collection inspired by its 1969 archival hand-carry cases
- The upcoming release features a geometric grid pattern pressed directly into the rigid aluminum shells
- Limited to 1,969 numbered pieces, the drop includes Hand-Carry, Cabin, and Trunk sizing options
RIMOWA returns to its deep industrial archives to introduce the Classic Aluminium Grid collection, reviving a singular design language first developed in 1969.
Moving away from the brand’s universally recognized vertical grooves, the new limited-edition range transforms the rigid aluminum shells with a structured, embossed geometric grid pattern. The collection marks a meticulous reinterpretation of technical precision, spanning three distinct silhouettes: the Classic Hand-Carry Case, the Classic Cabin, and a first-ever Classic Trunk size for a limited run.
Further elevating the archival homage, the exterior’s grid motif is seamlessly mirrored on a soft quilted interior lining. Signature Classic series elements remain intact, including a high-gloss palladium lock system, airplane-debossed rivets, and an infinitely adjustable telescopic handle. To complete the heritage-driven aesthetic, the luggage features striking blue leather accents across the handles and accompanying luggage tags, serving as a direct nod to historical color palettes. Each piece is crafted in Cologne and issued with an exclusive numbered badge.
The RIMOWA Classic Aluminium Grid collection drops on March 26 via select RIMOWA stores and the brand’s official webstore.
