Threads and Taxes: Inside Intuit TurboTax’s Limited-Edition Fashion Capsule Showcase
The city’s local community joined to celebrate the brand’s fashion partnership with Who Decides War and Kody Phillips to close out New York Fashion Week.
Just a few blocks from Intuit TurboTax’s new state-of-the-art SoHo flagship store, which offers New Yorkers a seamless “done-for you” filing experience, with the option to meet their local dedicated expert face to face, the tax-filing brand hosted a closing reception for their fashion showcase to celebrate their unique collaboration with NYC designers Who Decides War and Kody Phillips. TurboTax joined forces with these growing fashion labels amid New York Fashion Week to explore the intersection of business and art — how NYC creatives move with intention across their creative and financial output.
During the event, custom displays presented each fashion capsule, along with exclusive sketches, mood boards, and creative collateral giving guests a peek behind the designer’s inspiration and the ideation processes for the one-of-a-kind fashion collections made with TurboTax.
Aspiring fashion designers, students and local creatives gathered at the venue to meet designers Kody Phillips and Ev Bravado and Téla D’Amore of Who Decides War. Guests could engage with the apparel pieces up close to observe the craftsmanship and subtle customizations that went into each unique garment, from the materials and hardware to cut-and-sew detailing.
The structured Camp Collar shirt by Kody Phillips featured intricate embellishments, such as watermelon gems and pearl stones applied to the lapels. The designer’s hero button-up jacket debuted custom-made “KP” hardware, one of the many subtle ornaments that reinforced this garment authentically as Kody Phillips. Denim pieces distressed with paint splatters spoke to Phillip’s intention to create lived-in studio pieces that represent the hustle mentality of NYC artists.
Who Decides War’s race-inspired vinyl moto jacket, a deconstructed trucker button-up, distressed hoodie, and tote bag — with a dedication to the cross streets that belong to the home of SoHo TurboTax – were elegantly presented alongside Kody Phillip’s workwear-inspired ensemble, blending high-fashion sensibilities with cutting-edge, street-inspired designs.
The thoughtfully curated event hosted by TurboTax, closed with pure excitement and celebration from the community — taking over a rustic, industrial event space at 45 Grand St., to compliment the interactive garment displays with an open bar, small bites and beats by a local DJ, creating a truly energizing experience for guests. The event provided the perfect opportunity for aspiring creators to meet face to face with the designers behind these hard hitting labels, to unpack the lessons, tools and resources that have helped accelerate their growth and establish long-term stability in a rapidly evolving industry.
Kody Phillip’s TurboTax-inspired T-shirt and Who Decides War custom tote bags were gifted to guests as a special token of the partnership as the night came to a close.
