LEGO and Amazon MGM Studios have officially announced the LEGO Icons Project Hail Mary set, a sophisticated building kit designed for adult fans of Andy Weir’s acclaimed science fiction novel. Arriving ahead of the major motion picture starring Ryan Gosling, the 830-piece model offers a detailed microscale recreation of the Hail Mary starship. The set emphasizes display-ready accuracy, capturing the streamlined hull and scientific modules of the ship that carries humanity’s last hope for survival.
The centerpiece of the build is the interstellar spacecraft itself, which stands over 12 inches high when mounted on its specialized display stand. Designed for builders aged 18 and up, the set incorporates a clever manual play feature: by turning a crank at the base of the stand, an integrated axle rotates the crew module. This motion is intended to simulate the centrifugal gravity system utilized during the mission to the Tau Ceti solar system.
Character inclusions are a major draw for this Icons release, featuring a Ryland Grace minifigure in a red spacesuit and a brick-built figure of the alien engineer, Rocky. The inclusion of Grace marks a milestone for collectors, as it serves as the official LEGO debut for Gosling. The model is finished with a printed information plaque that highlights the ship’s specifications, making it a strike centerpiece for any science fiction collection.
