Sci-Fi Fantasy and Come Tees join forces to merge Jerry Hsu’s graphic-heavy skate brand with Sonya Sombreuil’s Los Angeles-based DIY streetwear label. The collection combines Sombreuil’s hand-painted fine art graphics and recurring motifs, such as dragons and her self-described “Girl” imagery, with Sci-Fi Fantasy’s signature typography and bold, effortless visual style.
The collection is made in LA on custom blanks, using garment-dyed cotton jersey that is screen-printed, then enzyme-washed for a soft, vintage feel. The collaboration lineup includes: a white, boxy Dragton Tee, a vivid magenta 90s-fit Girl Tee, a light blue Girl ringer Tee with a brown neckline, a teal, puff-logo embellished butterfly zip-up hoodie, and a dark blue studded “Fantasy” trucker hat.
Pro skateboarder, photographer, and artist Jerry Hsu founded Sci-Fi Fantasy in 2017. The brand started as an experimental Instagram account filled with cryptic, lo-fi imagery before growing into an apparel and skateboarding line with a cult following. Painter Sonya Sombreuil launched Come Tees in 2009, and it operates as a small, DIY, studio-style operation where blanks become canvases for her hand-drawn graphics, jagged lines, and surreal imagery.
The collaboration connects longtime friends and fans of each other, as both brands are small, artist-led, and built on limited runs and Los Angeles production. While describing the collection and working with Sombreuil, Hsu wrote on Sci-Fi Fantasy’s Instagram account, “She’s an incredible artist and makes some of the most interesting clothing I’ve come across. We’ve talked about doing something together for a long time, and it is so satisfying to finally make it happen.” He added that the collection is “a little different from what we normally make, and we’re really happy with how everything turned out.”
The Sci-Fi Fantasy & Come Tees capsule collection is now available on scififantasy.co and shop-cometees.biz.
