RIMOWA has added Umber and Ultramarine to its Essential and Groove collections, two seasonal hues named after pigments that painters have worked with for centuries. Fronted by English actor Joe Alwyn, the release covers polycarbonate luggage, calfskin bags and travel accessories, with each piece finished in a single tone from top to bottom.
The palette begins with the pigments themselves. Umber, an earthy brown, takes its name from umbra, the Latin word for shadow, and is frequently used to lay down the base coat of a painting. Ultramarine comes from lapis lazuli, a costly blue that artists have prized since the Renaissance. On the luggage, the pair plays as a study in contrast: Umber gives off a warm, grounded glow, while Ultramarine reads deep and saturated.
On the Essential range, the color runs through every component. The polycarbonate shell is matched to the handle, zipper, logo badge and wheel housing, so no contrasting hardware interrupts the monochrome finish. RIMOWA backs that up with its signature running gear: a telescopic handle that extends without fixed stops, the Multiwheel system and TSA-approved locks, plus a complimentary leather address tag. Sizing spans the Cabin through to the Trunk Plus, though not every format comes in both shades, as the Check-In M is offered only in Ultramarine and the Check-In L only in Umber.
Open the case and the interior divides into two zones. One side holds a fully zipped compartment and a large mesh pocket, while the other houses RIMOWA’s adjustable Flex Divider. A built-in compression system lets travelers fit more in without sacrificing order, and the entire Essential lineup carries the Maison’s lifetime guarantee.
The hues move into the Groove range through a tighter leather edit. The standout is the new Groove Mini Shopping Bag, a scaled-down version of the line’s original shopper available in both colors. Made in Italy from smooth, hard-wearing calfskin, it fastens with a magnetic closure, gets polished palladium hardware and switches between hand, shoulder and cross-body carry via a removable, adjustable strap. The Groove Cross-Body Bag Small and Zipped Pouch arrive in Umber only, while a Trifold Toiletry Pouch and a three-size set of Packing Cubes come in Ultramarine.
The campaign builds on the art-studio theme. Alwyn plays a young artist settling into an unfamiliar workspace and slowly making it his own using brown and blue pigments with centuries of painting history behind them. As the days go by, the two colors spill beyond the canvas and into his routine, steering how he creates.
The RIMOWA Umber and Ultramarine collection is available now via RIMOWA stores, retail locations, franchises and online.
