  • NVIDIA aims to power Level 4 robotaxi fleets by 2027 using its AI chips
  • CEO Jensen Huang identifies autonomous robotics as the company’s next major growth driver
  • Partnerships with Uber and Mercedes-Benz will scale self-driving technology globally

At CES 2026 on January 5, NVIDIA announced its ambition to dominate the autonomous vehicle sector, aiming to power Level 4 robotaxi fleets with its AI chips and Drive AV software by 2027. While automotive sales currently account for only a small fraction of earnings, CEO Jensen Huang identified robotics and self-driving technology as the company’s second most critical growth frontier, following general artificial intelligence.

During the conference, Huang shared a bold vision for the future of transportation: “We imagine that someday, a billion cars on the road will all be autonomous. You could either have it be a robotaxi that you’re orchestrating and renting from somebody, or you could own it.”

NVIDIA’s strategy targets both commercial operators and consumer manufacturers. This includes a partnership with Uber, announced in October 2025, to scale the world’s largest Level 4-ready mobility network using next-generation robotaxi and autonomous delivery fleets. Additionally, NVIDIA is teaming up with Mercedes-Benz to launch models by late 2026 that will utilize the company’s technology to navigate complex urban environments autonomously.
