Bao Bao Issey Miyake Reimagines Urban Landscapes With the “Map” Series
Transforming the brand’s signature triangular pieces into hand-drawn cityscapes.
Summary
- Bao Bao Issey Miyake debuts the “MAP” series featuring hand-drawn urban landscapes
- Triangular panels represent buildings, while gaps between them serve as roads
- Available now in two colorways for ¥74,800 JPY (approx. $480 USD) at a Kyoto pop-up
Bao Bao Issey Miyake has launched a new series titled “Map,” featuring hand-drawn city outlines integrated into the brand’s iconic geometric aesthetic. This collection brings a playful, narrative touch to the iconic three-dimensional design formed by its signature triangular pieces.
The series arrives in a tote bag silhouette, utilizing the brand’s core construction where rigid triangles are arranged on a flexible mesh grid. In a creative twist, the names of past Bao Bao items are printed across these pieces, doubling as the names of buildings and landmarks within the urban design. The gaps between the triangles serve as the “roads” of the map. The collection offers two distinct colorways: white, which evokes a city during the day, and charcoal, which captures the atmosphere of a city at night.
Accompanying the launch is a campaign video depicting people and towns emerging from the triangular grid, eventually showing a bag taking flight from a bird’s-eye view of the map.
Priced at ¥74,800 JPY (approx. $480 USD), the Bao Bao Issey Miyake “Map” bags are available now on the brand’s official website. To celebrate the release, a commemorative pop-up is being held at ShinPuhkan in Kyoto through January 18. Check out the release video below.
