Audio-Technica has unveiled the AT-LP7X, a fully manual belt-drive turntable crafted for vinyl enthusiasts who value precision engineering and minimalist design. Building on the success of the AT-LP7 from 2019, the AT-LP7X positions itself as a performance-driven alternative to direct-drive systems. Its construction features a 40mm MDF plinth finished in sleek matte black and a 20mm anti-resonance acrylic platter, working in tandem to minimize mechanical noise and deliver stable record playback.
A highlight of the AT-LP7X is its J-shaped aluminum tonearm, a nod to Audio-Technica’s classic designs from the 1960s and ’70s. The tonearm employs a dual-axis gimbal with precision ball bearings for enhanced tracking accuracy and stability. Pre-mounted to the lightweight AT-LT10 headshell is the AT-VM95E BK cartridge with a 0.3 x 0.7 mil elliptical stylus, offering excellent channel separation and tonal clarity. Fully compatible with the VM95 series, the cartridge allows users to upgrade or experiment with different styli. Adjustable vertical tracking angle (VTA) and included subcounterweights further expand compatibility with a wide range of cartridges and headshells, making the AT-LP7X a versatile choice for audiophiles.
Additional refinements include spring-loaded vibration-isolating feet and an external power supply, both designed to reduce unwanted resonance and electronic interference. The turntable comes pre-mounted with the AT-VM95E Dual Moving Magnet cartridge on the new AT-LT10 headshell, ensuring immediate usability while providing a clear path for future stylus upgrades. Available now through Audio-Technica and select retailers, the AT-LP7X retails for $999 USD, offering a premium yet adaptable platform for high-fidelity vinyl playback.
