While this continuous airflow naturally prevents true noise isolation and allows audio leakage, it presents sound more naturally and reduces physical heat buildup around the ears.
To drive that natural acoustic profile, the device carries 53mm open-back drivers. For wireless fidelity, the ATH-AL5NC supports high-resolution 24-bit/96kHz audio streaming using LDAC, AAC and SBC codecs. Despite the substantial hardware, the physical footprint remains ergonomic. The headphones feature minimal clamping pressure for long-term comfort and weigh 240 grams. A built-in microphone handles everyday calls and wireless gaming sessions.
Power management is a central focus of the release. Audio-Technica states the headphones offer up to 75 hours of continuous playback on a single full charge. When the dedicated noise reduction mode is active, the battery life provides 50 hours of playback. A rapid 15-minute quick charge adds eight hours of listening time if the battery runs dry. To manage multiple audio streams, the ATH-AL5NC integrates multipoint Bluetooth pairing to remain connected to two devices simultaneously.
Users looking to mitigate the acoustic drawbacks of an open-back chassis can leverage the CONNECT app. The software interface allows listeners to customize their experience through EQ adjustments, codec selection and preset cycles. Furthermore, the app includes discrete modes tailored for low-latency gaming and sound leakage reduction. Physical controls allow users to activate the noise reduction mode via a tactile button on the right earcup. Rounding out the $279 USD package, the headphones include a carrying pouch and a 1.2-meter cable for wired connections.
