While it immediately became clear that Lucas had a hit on his hand, nobody could have expected it to grow into the behemoth of a franchise that it is today. Sequels, spin-offs, TV shows, novels, and many more pieces of media make up the expansive galaxy far, far away that we know today.
While fans prepare themselves for upcoming releases, which include a wide variety of films in development and animated shows like Star Wars: Visions Volume 3 and Maul: Shadow Lord, Lucasfilm is ready to turn back time. The original film, Star Wars, now known as Star Wars: A New Hope, will be returning to theaters for its 50th anniversary in 2027. Information regarding this re-release is sparse, however, it is noted that 2027 will feature a “yearlong 50th anniversary celebration” from Lucasfilm.
