  • ‘The Enlightenment’ runs through August 29 and includes a free kids’ workshop on June 26

Los Angeles-based artist Greg Ito has taken over Rockefeller Center with The Enlightenment, a vibrant public exhibition presented in partnership with Art Production Fund as part of the Art in Focus program.

On view from June 2, the multi-site installation features paintings, sculptures, dioramas and photographic works that draw from personal memory and themes of transformation. Ito began many of the featured paintings during the California wildfires, layering symbols like flames, flowers, doorways and the setting sun to reflect cycles of destruction and renewal.

At 45 Rockefeller Plaza, Ito transforms street-facing vitrines into sculptural installs, each one framed by windows and infused with cinematic lighting that shifts from day to twilight. Nearby, a 125-foot panoramic vinyl wraps the lower-level rink space with a narrative sequence blending staged photography and painted visuals.

This marks the first time Ito’s painting and photography are shown side by side in such a public setting. Elements of the exhibition also appear across multiple Rockefeller buildings, reinforcing the storytelling with recurring motifs.

As part of the programming, a free interactive children’s workshop will take place on June 26 from 2–5pm, co-hosted by Ito and Art Production Fund, supported by Leatherology. The Enlightenment is on view through August 29.
