A followup to David Fincher and Aaron Sorkin‘s The Social Network is in the works.
Deadline reports that Sorkin, who wrote the predecessor, will take over director duties for The Social Network Part II. Rather than a direct followup, the film will reportedly take inspiration from Jeff Horowitz and the Wall Street Journal’s “The Facebook Files.” The series of articles took a deep dive into Facebook‘s internal document leak, where it confirmed that the platform was aware of its harmful effects on society.
Not much is known about the film, leaving many to ask whether the origial cast — led by Jesse Eisenberg and Andrew Garfield — will return. Sorkin will be directing and writing, as well producing alongside Todd Black, Peter Rice and Stuart Besser.
The Social Network released in 2010 and was based on The Accidental Billionaires by Ben Mezrich. It went on to win three Academy Awards out of eight nominations, and earned $226 million USD at the global box office.
