McDonald’s has debuted its most dynamic store yet at Admiralty Station, Hong Kong, unveiling a bold new “Mood-Engine” design by Landini Associates. Dubbed a “Ray-Naissance” in honor of founder Ray Kroc, the redesign marks 50 years of McDonald’s in Hong Kong and 70 years since Kroc opened his first U.S. restaurant.

Known as one of the busiest McDonald’s locations globally, the Admiralty outpost has been transformed into an 833-square-meter flagship powered by “Loco-Motion,” a central 22-meter-long digital installation that shifts in lighting, color and animation to match the restaurant’s energy throughout the day. Animated McDonaldland characters and responsive design bring the space to life, blending playful branding with sleek modernity.

Designed to adapt in real time to customer moods and needs, the Mood-Engine concept reflects McDonald’s evolving role in fast-paced urban centers. According to Landini Associates, the redesign aims to set a timeless standard for interior investment — one that is visually fluid, locally tuned and emotionally engaging.

The project encompasses full brand strategy and interior design, including graphics, wayfinding, signage, screen animation and even staff uniforms. It’s McDonald’s most immersive environment yet — and a sign of where quick-service dining is headed next.
