Insta360 Launches X5, Updating its Flagship 360º Action Camera Model
It features a larger 1/1.28-inch sensor, a “first-of-its-kind” replaceable lens system, and is available now worldwide.
Insta360 has launched its latest 360° action camera, the Insta360 X5, upgrading several features found in its flagship model’s predecessor.
The new X5 arrives with the largest sensor Insta360 has provided in a handheld consumer 360º camera yet, a 1/1.28-inch sensor that the brand says delivers “a dramatic leap in image quality across all resolutions” including 8K video at 30fps. The X5 features a “lightning-fast” Triple AI Chip system together with further enhancements aided by AI including PureVideo, an all-new mode geared towards low-light capture, making the new camera even more versatile across different lighting environments.
Insta360 describes its new camera as “the toughest 360° camera ever”, with lenses that were crafted from newly used kind of “ultra-durable glass”.
The brand further claims this new lens system sets a “new standard” for action camera, describing the X5 as having a “first-of-its-kind replaceable lens system” that sets it apart from other 360º cameras currently available in the market.
Additional upgrades found in the new X5 include a built-in wind guard to help deliver crisp audio in challenges conditions, an increased battery life (now up to 3-hours long), and improvements to the camera’s waterproof capabilities (up to 49-feet).
There have also been some software changes, like the newly created InstaFrame Mode that “simultaneously captures an auto-framed, ready-to-share flat video and a full 360° video to fine-tune later”, while the Insta360 companion app has been redesigned to include “more intuitive editing tools” and now allows the X5 to pair to the brand’s cloud service.
JK Liu, Insta360’s founder, says the updates found in its new X5 is the company “solving creators’ real challenges,” adding: “from replaceable lenses to AI-powered low-light shooting, we’ve built our dream camera—rugged enough for adventure, capable enough to produce high quality footage, and intelligent enough to capture epic moments effortlessly.”
To celebrate the launch, the brand held a pop-up at Grand Central Terminal in New York City, which saw hundreds of fans turn up to be the first to get their hands on the new camera.
