Greta Gerwig Casts Emma Mackey as the White Witch in 'The Chronicles of Narnia'

Following rumors of Charli XCX reportedly being in talks to be in Greta Gerwig‘s upcoming The Chronicles of Narnia project for Netflix, Emma Mackey hasn now been confirmed to join the film as the titular White Witch.
According to Variety, Mackey has landed the role, which was last played by Tilda Swinton in the 2005 adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Mackey is slated to join Meryl Streep who is expected to play Aslan, the talking lion who serves as the children’s guide and guardian in Narnia.
Gerwig is set to direct the film and write the script that is reportedly tackling the sixth novel of the series, The Magician’s Nephew, where the White Witch is the main character. Narnia is expected to release on Thanksgiving Day 2026 worldwide in theaters before premiering on Netflix. Gerwig has had quite the track record, delivering the blockbuster Barbie in 2023 that grossed over $1.4 billion USD starring and produced by Margot Robbie.
