Denim Tears' Cotton Wreath Is Sizing Up NYC

In the Tremaine Emory-led label’s latest campaign, a giant Sober Yung Walter towers over Manhattan hot spots in the brand’s new oversized loungewear collection.

After dropping its season four collaboration with Levi’s last month, Denim Tears is back to launch its new Big Cotton Wreath collection: a lineup of comfortable silhouettes screen-printed with enlarged iterations of the Tremaine Emory-led label’s classic motif.

The lineup sees Denim Tears’ signatures — hoodies, sweatpants, and sweatshorts — redone with statement-making oversized fits and prints. Garment-dyed in black, grey, and purple hues, each piece is emblazoned with the brand’s quintessential “Cotton Wreath” signifier, representing the strife of Black people within the cotton trade and in present-day America, as part of Emory’s larger mission of telling the stories of the African diaspora through clothes.

The line’s accompanying campaign pictures a blown-up version of New York fashionphile Sober Yung Walter posing against major locations in the city. In one image, he’s posted up above the Chinatown entrance to the Manhattan Bridge with a Citi Bike; and in another, he’s leaning over the famed Calvin Klein billboard on East Houston Street.
