Amazon MGM Studios has officially confirmed that it will be developing a biopic on Tiger Woods. Barack and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground Productions is said to be in talks to produce.

The film is slated to be based on Kevin Cook’s book, The Tiger Slam: The Inside Story of the Greatest Golf Ever Played, a biographical drama that charts the rise of a child golf prodigy into a global star. The filmmaker behind King Richard, Reinaldo Marcus Green is set to be the director as well. The film is said to take inspiration from many of the book’s major themes. Expected to largely focus on Woods’ four consecutive major championships, known in the golf world as the “Tiger Slam,” the story will also touch on Woods turning pro at the age of 20 in 1996 and how he skyrocketed to becoming one of the most recognizable golfers of all time. With 15 major championship wins throughout his career including 82 PGA Tour victories, Woods is regarded as the one of the greatest to ever play the game.

Off the green, Woods was a hot topic in the media in 2009 when he fell from grace following his extramarital affairs. Due to his personal issues, it led to fallouts with sponsorship companies like Accenture, AT&T, Gatorade and General Motors. This drama would not be depicted in the film, and instead be focused on him as a golfer. He was also arrested for driving under the influence in 2017 and survived a serious car accident in 2021 that caused multiple leg injuries leading to Woods taking a hiatus from golf. He eventually returned to the sport and won his first major tournament at the 2019 Masters, the first in 11 years.

In the past other Tiger Woods documentaries included one that was titled Tiger on HBO for a two-part seires in 2021. Amazon MGM’s timeline for Woods’ biopic is unclear at the moment and it has yet been confirmed when the release date will be.
