A rare 1966 Porsche 906 Carrera 6, one of just 65 ever built, is now available for sale through RM Sotheby’s. With a storied racing history and exceptional originality, this example — chassis 906-115 — represents a golden era of Porsche motorsport engineering.

Originally commissioned by Italian amateur racer and hillclimb specialist Ermanno Spazzapan, the car quickly proved its competitive prowess. It secured a class victory at the 1968 Imola 500 Kilometres and a third-place class finish in the 1967 Circuito del Mugello. Throughout its early racing career, the Porsche 906 saw action across Europe, including events at Vallelunga, Mugello, and Innsbruck, before transitioning into private collections.

Beyond its impressive race pedigree, 906-115 has been meticulously preserved. Retaining its original GRP body panels and gearbox, the car remains highly authentic. It has also undergone over $60,000 USD worth of recent specialist maintenance by Road Scholars of Durham, NC, ensuring its mechanical integrity. The car is accompanied by its original Kardex, an expired FIA Historic Technical Passport and a detailed report by Porsche expert Jürgen Barth.

Designed as a lightweight evolution of the 904, the Porsche 906 Carrera 6 featured a multi-tubular frame with unstressed fiberglass bodywork to optimize weight reduction. Its 2L, six-cylinder engine produced 210 hp, making it a formidable competitor against larger-displacement rivals. The model cemented its legacy with class victories at Daytona, Sebring, Monza and Le Mans, further solidifying its place as one of Porsche’s most successful endurance racers.

Eligible for prestigious historic events like the Tour Auto, Le Mans Classic, Goodwood Revival and Monterey Historics, this Porsche 906 presents a rare opportunity for collectors seeking a race-proven example. The 906 is available now upon request via RM Sotheby’s private sales.
