Gucci Honors The Art of Silk

Despite recent high-level shakeups, Gucci is still focusing on returning to its roots. Honoring a century-old legacy, the brand has tapped nine international artists to reimagine core tenants of house codes for a series of silk scarves in a project titled “90×90.” The five themes include the equestrian horse bit, nautical motifs, flora, fauna, and the interlocking GG logo. The artists selected to interpret these works are: Gio Pastori, Walter Petrone, Everett Glenn, Sara Leghissa, Currynew, Jonny Niesche, Robert Barry, Inji Seo, and Yu Cai.

Alongside the “90×90” scarves, Gucci, in partnership with Assouline, will also release a coffee table book titled Gucci: The Art of Silk. Curated by Jo-Ann Furniss, the book explores the longstanding legacy of the brand’s silk foulards. The book also comes with a Gucci Flora motif silk slipcover.

The “90×90” silk scarves will be available for purchase beginning April 1. In conjunction with the campaign launch, Gucci will host in-person activations in Paris.

This month, Gucci will also be honoring its iconic 1947 Bamboo Bag in an exhibition at Sunke Villa in Shanghai. The “Decoding an Icon” exhibit will be open to the public and free of charge from March 28 until April 6. Visitors can make advanced reservations via WeChat.
