Rivian Reveals First Limited-Edition R1 Examples
Featuring bespoke “California Dune” interior and exterior design.
Rivian has introduced its limited-edition California Dune Edition, a bespoke variant of the Tri-Motor R1 vehicles inspired by Southern California’s iconic desert dunes. Tailored specifically for sand and rugged terrain, this special edition emphasizes performance and refinement, blending off-road capability with exclusive aesthetic enhancements.
The California Dune Edition stands out with its distinctive California Dune exterior paint, capturing the warm, earthy hues of sunlit desert sands. Complementing the unique color is an exterior Darkout Package that highlights bold contrasts in badging and detailing. Buyers can choose between newly designed 20-inch dark wheels or wheels finished in California Dune to match the exterior paint.
Inside, the limited-edition model debuts an Adventure interior featuring a sophisticated two-tone design with Sandstone upholstery contrasted by Black Mountain upper accents. Durable, easy-to-clean flooring and matching Sandstone Chilewich mats ensure practicality after adventures on sandy terrain.
Underpinning its rugged appearance is robust off-road performance. Equipped with Rivian’s powerful Tri-Motor configuration, the California Dune Edition produces 850 hp and 1,103 lb-ft of torque, enabling a 0-60 mph sprint of 2.9 seconds. An EPA-estimated range of 329 miles ensures ample capability for long desert journeys. Additionally, the vehicle comes standard with a specialized “Soft Sand” driving mode, tailored specifically for dune expeditions.
This adventure-ready package also includes dark MAXTRAX recovery boards, reinforced underbody shielding and a revised powered tonneau cover for the R1T. The Rivian California Dune Edition R1T starts at $99,900 USD, while the R1S is priced from $105,900 USD. Enthusiasts can view the vehicle firsthand during this year’s SXSW at the Rivian Electric Roadhouse or at select Rivian spaces nationwide.
