Rebecca Black Takes On Hyperpop For 'Salvation'
14 years after “Friday,” the singer is ready to face new genres head on.

Rebecca Black is no longer the 13-year-old viral star of Friday, and she wants you to know that, too. The now 27-year-old artist is back with her second full-length project, Salvation. Self-released, the project represents Black’s bold entry into more experimental genres, including the ever-more mainstream hyperpop.
‘Salvation’ aims to set itself apart from Black’s internet-teen reputation. The seven song album is a quick 21 minutes long, filled with hypnotic dance tracks and nostalgic lyrics.
The album was teased in October with its first single release, “TRUST!” The song opens with a bold guitar riff that quickly introduces the electronic influence. Since then, it has become one of her most streamed tracks. The second single, “Sugar Water Cyanide,” was released in December. The song is a much clearer entry into hyperpop, even though the genre is continuously evolving.
‘Salvation’ isn’t the singer’s first dip into experimental electronic music. In 2023, Black self-released her first full-length album, ‘Let Her Burn,’ which she promoted with a tour. Last summer, she also performed a Boiler Room set, which Black described on Instagram as “the loudest bucket list item I’ll ever get to check off.”
You can stream “Salvation” on Apple Music and Spotify now.
