Palace To Open Second Store in Seoul
With a design concept inspired by London’s world-famous Southbank, where the UK skate label was born.
Just one year ago, Palace opened its first flagship in Seoul’s Apgujeoung ward, a renowned streetwear hub and one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in town. Now, the UK streetwear titan is gearing up to open a second shopping destination in the South Korean capital city’s Mapo-gu area, known for its youthful energy and universities.
The new space was designed in collaboration with Steve Oh, who formerly led design for a research team at Google ATAP and now runs his own design firm called OSTVO. The store’s interior concept is inspired by London’s Southbank, the famed riverside skate spot where Palace was born, with brutalist interior decals, massive floor-to-ceiling windows, concrete pillars and sprawling screen walls.
“The pillars are such an iconic part of growing up at Southbank. The team worked really hard to mimic the wood-like texture of the concrete,” Palace’s design team told Hypebeast. “Overall, we wanted it to feel welcoming, and we hope they enjoy looking at it and checking all the finer details out of the space.”
