NEIGHBORHOOD Unveils SS25 Collection Featuring Keffiyeh-Inspired Pieces
The scarf pattern, worn widely across the Middle East and the Arab diaspora, incorporates NEIGHBORHOOD’s signature peace sign.
NEIGHBORHOOD has unveiled its SS25 collection, featuring a lineup of distressed basics and tactical silhouettes centered around a statement-making cultural motif.
Founder Shinsuke Takizawa‘s latest collection reiterates the brand’s codes with military silhouettes including a patch-pocket shirt-jacket, cargo pants, an olive green parka, and leather flight jackets. Wardrobe essentials including jeans, knitted sweaters, and jersey knit crewnecks and cardigans are characterized by discolored blotches, thready hems, worn-in holes, and disparate stitching details.
The Japanese label keeps graphics to a minimum this season with faded NH94 acronyms, “Durable Work Products” taglines, and industrial uniform patches. One hand-illustrated hoodie stands out with contrast paneling and various drawings depicting a collegiate crest, a Playboy-esque bunny, and the Nirvana song titled “Smells Like Teen Spirit.”
Inspired by traditional Middle Eastern scarves called keffiyehs, the collection is joined by a range of patterned jackets, accessories, and homeware. Holding particular significance to the Palestinian cause, the traditional woven pattern is a fitting callout from the brand, often featuring pacifist and countercultural symbols in its graphics. Hooded utility jackets, scarves, and necklaces borrow key elements of the scarf and incorporate a peace sign into the pattern.
