Garmin has launched the Instinct 3 Series, the latest collection from its family of rugged, sports-focused smartwatches, with various models and options including one that promises “unlimited battery life”.

The new watches are available in two sizes – 45mm and 50mm – and two different screen options, one of which is an always-on AMOLED display that has been newly introduced to the series. It offers a bright, rich display and a very respectable up to “24 days [of power] on a single charge”. The other option sees the return of the popular solar-powered displays found in the Instinct 2 Series. Naturally, battery life is the key differentiator between the two, with the latter offering limitless power (as long as you have light) without the need for cables. Garmin says that the new Instinct 3 Solar gets “more than five times the battery life of its predecessor” while solar charging, though this is dependent on which mode the watch is being used in.

Garmin has stated that its new watches have been “designed with adventurers in mind” and both models have been built to the United States Military’s “MIL-STD-810” standard. The watches are constructed with fiber-reinforced polymer cases and include newly designed metal bezels for extra durability, with the brand also claiming the screens are “scratch-resistant”. All models are water-rated to 100 meters and feature a built-in flashlight capable of producing various intensities, including red light and strobe options to assist in dark situations.

Other features found in the Instinct 3 Series include Garmin Pay for contactless payments, multi-band GPS with SatIQ for improved accuracy and battery efficiency, steps tracking, heart rate and heart rate variability monitoring, advanced sleep monitoring, and wrist-based Pulse Ox2. Women’s health is also a focus and the new watches offer menstrual cycle tracking, too.

The Instinct 3 Series is available now in “Black”, “Black/Charcoal”, “Neotropic” and “Neotropic/Twilight”, with prices starting at £349.99 GBP / $399.99 USD.
