FreshService Delivers Function-Forward "Military Items" Capsule
A five item collection of tactical garments with special details including velcro straps, drawstrings, adjustable buckles and more.
Casual Japanese brand FreshService has released its SS25 Military Items capsule, a 5-item line-up of outerwear and bottoms inspired by authentic military-issue styles. Drawing from the Western lexicon of tactical design, the concise collection simplifies and modernizes its nostalgic references with contemporary lifestyles in mind.
Back Sateen Field Jacket in tan uses back satin fabric, a common military textile, and incorporates traditional velcro cuffs and a stowaway hood. The green Back Sateen Field Pants incorporate traditional cargo pockets and an adjustable waist, while the more pared-back Utility Baker Pants feature subtle patch pockets.
Finally, the classic blue Denim Pullover Shirt and the Utility Fatigue shirt offer lightweight alternatives for the warmer months, updated from their military references with elongated panels and a baggy fit. Throughout the collection, FreshService reimagines the military-inspired silhouettes with oversized Japanese fits for a more contemporary style.
The label, headed by Takayuki Minami, also of Graph Paper, often centers its designs on refined functionality, calling their products “tools.” On the research process for the Military Items collection, the brand said “We researched how military wear is made as functional clothing and what purpose it serves, including the fabrics and materials, and produced it as close to the original as possible.” However, the brand emphasizes that it streamlined each piece fit for modern urban life.
