Summary
- Zenith has unveiled two DEFY Extreme Chroma limited editions
- Coming in titanium and ceramic versions, the 45mm watch features PVD‑colored bridges and is is powered by tbe El Primero 9004 caliber
Zenith’s Defy Extreme Chroma returns as two limited-edition models that pair the brand’s high-frequency El Primero 9004 chronograph with a vivid, multi‑hued movement finish and bold titanium‑and‑ceramic casework.
The Chroma editions continue Zenith’s exploration of color within the Defy family, translating the maison’s avant‑garde spirit into two 45 mm executions that juxtapose its rugged case with a striking chromatic palette. These releases follow the earlier Defy Chroma launches and position the collection as a platform where high‑frequency chronometry meets expressive design. Each edition emphasizes the DEFY Extreme’s sculptural lines, dodecagonal bezel, angular lugs and pronounced pusher protectors, while using contrasting surface finishes to heighten the watch’s dynamic presence.
Behind the openworked dial, Zenith fits a specially finished El Primero 9004 whose bridges are PVD‑coated in a spectrum of colours, creating a mechanical “rainbow” that is partially visible through the dial and echoed in the gradient of the markers and subsidiary‑hand tips. The caliber’s technical credentials remain uncompromised: two independent escapements – one at 36,000vph for timekeeping, the other at 360,0vph for the chronograph – enable readings to 1/100th of a second, with the central chronograph hand completing a full rotation every second. Each movement is finished with its own distinctive chromatic composition, and the star‑shaped rotor continues the polychrome theme on the caseback.
Material innovation is central to the Chroma concept: the two limited editions combine microblasted or brushed/polished titanium cases with bezel, crown and pusher protectors in either black microblasted titanium or white ceramic, amplifying the watch’s architectural contrast while keeping weight and durability in balance. The Defy Extreme Chroma is engineered for demanding conditions, offering water resistance to 20 ATM, and ships with a quick‑change system and three strap options spanning rubber, titanium bracelet and Velcro.
Priced at 20,600 USD, each edition is produced in a 100‑piece limited run, available through Zenith boutiques, online and authorized retailers worldwide.
