Seiko expands its Astron lineup with two new GPS Solar Limited Editions, the SSH187J1 and SSJ039J1, each inspired by the visual drama of a swirling spiral galaxy. The SSH187J1 features a newly developed embossed spiral‑pattern dial designed to evoke “a mysterious galaxy of swirling stars,” paired with a dark turquoise surface infused with glitter to mimic cosmic light. The SSJ039J1 follows the same galaxy‑inspired concept, positioned as one of two “new stars emerging from the darkness” in the 2026 Astron lineup. Both models use an all‑black case and bracelet finished with a scratch‑resistant hard coating, maintaining a deep jet‑black sheen that reinforces the celestial theme.
Technically, the SSH187J1 is powered by Seiko’s Caliber 5X83, offering GPS time‑zone adjustment, a 1/20‑second chronograph, dual‑time functionality and a perpetual calendar accurate until February 2100. It delivers a six‑month power reserve on a full charge and maintains accuracy of ±15 seconds per month when not connected to GPS. The SSJ039J1, part of the Astron GPS Solar line, also features GPS solar capability, ensuring precise global timekeeping without battery changes. Both models include a bracelet with a fine‑adjustment clasp system for improved comfort and wearability.
Both models are scheduled for a January 2026 release, with the SSH187J1 being limited to 1,500 examples, priced at €3,000 EUR (approx. $3,526 USD). Meanwhile, the SSJ039J1 will retail for €2,500 (approx. $2,938 USD). For more details, head over to Seiko’s official website.
