Prime Video debuted the first teaser for Madden, the highly anticipated biopic from director David O. Russell. In a casting choice as bold as a fourth-down conversion, Nicolas Cage steps into the headset of John Madden — the legendary Oakland Raiders coach, boisterous broadcaster, and the face of the most successful sports video game franchise in history.
The film kicks off following Madden’s triumphant 1977 Super Bowl victory, charting his transition from the gridiron to the digital frontier. The teaser offers a first look at the unlikely partnership between Madden and EA Sports founder Trip Hawkins, played by John Mulaney, which paved the way for the Madden NFL gaming empire and his iconic career in the broadcast booth. Joining Cage is a powerhouse ensemble, including Christian Bale as the gritty Raiders owner Al Davis, who reminds viewers in the trailer that “football wouldn’t be football” without Madden’s singular influence.
The cast is rounded out by Kathryn Hahn as Madden’s wife, Virginia, Sienna Miller as Carol Davis, and comedian Shane Gillis. Written and directed by Russell, the film promises to capture the effervescent spirit of a man who became the ultimate bridge between the sport and its fans. The film arrives Thanksgiving 2026.
