Leica has unveiled the Q3 Monochrom camera, the latest evolution in its compact full-frame Q family, arriving just as the company celebrates the 100th anniversary of the seminal Leica I.
As the second monochrome model in the Q family, the Leica Q3 Monochrom is equipped with a 60 MP black-and-white sensor featuring Triple Resolution Technology, capable of capturing images at 60, 36, or 18 MP. By eliminating color filters, the sensor records only brightness data, resulting in exceptional sharpness, tonal depth, and dynamic range. With an ISO range of 100 to 200,000 and video recording up to 8K resolution, the camera delivers outstanding performance even in challenging lighting conditions. Paired with the fast Leica Summilux 28 f/1.7 ASPH. lens, it produces low-noise images rich in nuance and texture.
The design reflects Leica’s minimalist philosophy, with an all-metal body finished in black, understated engravings, and the deliberate absence of the red Leica logo. A refined leatherette covering enhances its tactile quality, while the 5.76 MP OLED viewfinder, hybrid autofocus system, and tilting touch display ensure modern usability. The Q3 Monochrom also offers macro capability at 17 cm, digital zoom from 28 to 90 mm, and an IP52 rating for dust and splash resistance. Connectivity is streamlined through Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB-C and Micro HDMI, enabling fast integration with the Leica FOTOS app.
Beyond its technical prowess, the Q3 Monochrom pioneers the use of Content Credentials technology, providing digital signatures compliant with the Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI) for tamper-proof verification of images. Optional accessories, including a wireless charging handgrip, red filter, and carrying straps, expand personalization options.
Available worldwide through Leica, the Q3 Monochrom camera retails for $7,790 USD
