The ‘Analogue 3D’ – An 'N64' Reimagined in 4K – Is Available Now

After two years and several false starts, Analogue’s highly anticipated Nintendo 64-inspired console – the Analogue 3D – has finally made it market, with pre-orders shipping today and a sign-up page for fresh orders live on the company’s website.

Like previous releases by the Seattle-based brand, the Analogue 3D is FPGA-powered and a special kind of chip to recreate Nintendo’s original console via hardware as opposed to emulating it on a software level, bringing what Analogue calls a “full recreation” of the Nintendo 64 into the modern era.

Built on the company’s new 3DOS platform, the Analogue 3D runs original N64 cartridges from any region without the need for patches, mods or workarounds. Designed to streamline the technical complexities that defined the original hardware, the console recognizes each game automatically, including Expansion Pak support, accessory requirements and region-specific behavior. On a user level, it works exactly as a real N64 would – you simply plug and play – only without the inconsistencies or compatibility issues that can plague aging consoles and older technology in general.

The system can output up to 4K60, backed by display controls that reproduce CRT, PVM and BVM characteristics at a hardware level. Rather than relying on filters, it simulates the technology found in older TVs, with phosphor response, scanlines and period-accurate color profiles to present classic games with cleaner, more accurate visuals on modern screens. Users can also tweak original hardware parameters – from turning off texture filtering to adjusting memory behavior – to recreate or refine specific visual traits.

Just like the original, the Analogue 3D maintains the N64’s emphasis on in-person multiplayer with four controller ports on the front of the unit. The brand has also worked with gaming peripherals manufacturer 8BitDo to release a completely new controller for the system, one that retains all of the functionality of the original Nintendo controller, but arrives in a modern and much more ergonomic form. In terms of connectivity, the Analogue 3D supports classic Bluetooth, Bluetooth LE, and low-latency 2.4GHz wireless. Other features include HDR support, detailed color calibration, unlocked RAM modes and a wide range of video controls – from display presets to accessory recognition, all of this is handled onboard the system, resulting in the smoothest N64 experience you can find today.

Additionally, Analogue is including cartridge cleaners in the box to help maintain old games and accessories – so, there’s no need to blow the dust out of your cart anymore (although though if you did we wouldn’t blame you).

As well as being region-free when it comes to games, the Analogue 3D launches with global power support. Each order includes a HDMI cable and SD card in the box, alongside an expanding ecosystem of accessories the brand is launching.

If you’ve already pre-ordered Analogue 3D, expect your order to ship today. If you haven’t, you can sign-up now on the brand’s site to get notified of new stock drops.
