Native Instruments Launches Traktor MX2, a Feature-Packed 2-Channel DJ Controller
The super sleek, all-black controller offers pro-level features and performance – and comes with the full version of Traktor Pro 4 in the box.
Native Instruments has introduced the Traktor MX2, a compact two-channel DJ controller designed to deliver creative control to DJs at any level. The all-black unit is a super sleek follow up to its predecessor and packs a host of features that include fully backlit buttons and pro-level creative tools you wouldn’t typically see at this price range. It also ships with the full version of Traktor Pro 4 software included – so it’s ready-to-go, right out-of-the-box.
The Traktor MX2 combines a streamlined interface with a hi-res 24-bit/96kHz audio system, making it a solid option for both house parties and smaller club set ups – its built-in high-fidelity audio interface is powered by Traktor Pro 4’s iZotope’s Ozone Maximizer, which helps to ensure your sound is consistent and clean in any environment.
Traktor has built its latest controller around a performance-focused workflow and it features several modes and options that inspire creativity, with both the mixer and the decks having dedicated effects. There are nine “Mixer FX” – all controlled by a single dial – that include filters, reverbs and more, while “Deck FX” adds over 40 studio-grade effects across two assignable FX units for deeper sound shaping. Users can chop, stretch and layer different sound effects and even whole part of tracks, creating loops and remixing songs in real-time.
The controller also features sixteen RGB performance pads that enable four creative modes: Hotcues for quick navigation and drops, Flux Loops for stuttered transitions, Pattern Player for on-the-fly sequencing, and Stems mode to isolate or combine track elements like vocals, drums, and instruments – having dedicated stems controls allows DJs to further personalize their mixes, and is a feature not often found on entry-level equipment like this.
Another pro-level feature not usually seen on controllers at this price point is one that gives you the ability to mix in key: With a dedicated key lock button, users can choose to shift a track’s key by simply holding and twisting, adjusting its sound by however many semitones they need to perfect the mix. With the same functionality, users can speed up or slow down a track without affecting its pitch – another feature that opens up the creative options DJs will have with their music.
At the heart of MX2 is Traktor’s Pro 4 software, which can be installed on either Mac or PC – and, while it sells separately for £129 GBP / $149 USD, Native Instruments is including the full version with each MX2. The brand is also including a two-month Beatport Streaming trial for new users, allowing you to take advantage of the integrated Beatport Streaming (and access to millions of tracks in the cloud) and try the service out without committing to a longer subscription.
For visual feedback in live settings, the controller features an illuminated shell that signals track position and loops, while customizable pad colors let DJs personalize their setup. Two touch-sensitive jog wheels support both Turntable and Jog modes, offering precision control for nudging, scratching, and scrolling.
The Traktor MX2 is available now via Native Instruments’ online store and select retail partners. And priced at just £349 GBP / €399 EUR / $449 USD, it’s fair to say you get a lot for your money.
