Summary

  • The publication gathers 25 culturally important artists, writers and filmmakers
  • The launch of this third edition will be marked by two major exhibitions

Paris in October is already alive with Art Basel, but this year opens with the launch of Magma No. 3: Archive of the Future, a large-format, limited-edition volume backed by Bottega Veneta–whom supported the project since its inception since 2023.

Hans Ulrich Obrist introduces the volume with a foreword, calling it “an extraordinary collection of artist archives that helps us invent the future,” describing the project not as a set of conclusions but as raw material for action.

The publication gathers 25 artists, writers and filmmakers into what its creators call a “poetic cartography of the contemporary world.” Elizabeth Peyton’s intimate portraits, Charles Ray’s clinical precision and Yoko Ono’s restless experimentation are all featured, with each contribution either newly created or published for the first time.

Highlights include seven polaroids by Jonas Mekas documenting a 1971 Fluxus dinner with Yoko Ono and John Lennon, Francis Ponge’s 1946 “Reflections on Chardin” still lifes and two previously unseen mirror paintings by Michelangelo Pistoletto, reproduced on mirrored pages in the book. Théo Casciani adds a fictional text in response to stills from Jonathan Glazer’s short film Strasbourg 1518, creating unexpected new dialogues across time and medium.

The launch of this third edition will be marked by two major exhibitions: one dedicated to Merry Alpern in London, staged in collaboration with TRAMPS gallery and opening October 13, 2025 and a large group show in Paris from October 19 to November 19, 2025. The Paris exhibition, at FORMA will present the original works featured in the publication.
