Louis Vuitton has unveiled the Louis Vuitton Monterey, a limited-edition watch that reimagines the Maison’s very first wristwatch, which originally debuted in the late 1980s.
Limited to just 188 pieces, the Monterey features a 39mm yellow gold case with a pocket-watched inspired crown at 12 o’clock. A striking white Grand Feu enamel dial also harks back to the original graphic footprint.
The Monterey replaces the original quartz movement with an in-house automatic caliber, the LFTMA01.02, which provides a 45-hour power reserve. Its minimalist, time-only dial retains the graphic red and blue accents of the heritage piece that can be spotted on its twin hour and minute scales. A similar quick release strap system takes inspiration from its predecessor, and also features a “1 of 188” engraving on the caseback.
“Reinterpreting a creation means respecting its design and spirit. We maintain the
same graphic codes, but strive for a more modern and elevated feel,” said Matthieu Hegi, Artistic Director at La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton. The watch is a testament to enduring craftsmanship, blending the brand’s history with contemporary watchmaking expertise.
The original pieces, known as the LV I and LV II, were designed by architect Gae Aulenti in a signature lug-free “pebble shape” and are now highly coveted by collectors. The new Monterey elevates this iconic design using the fine craftsmanship of La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton.
