Saucony has established itself as one of the world’s leading running and lifestyle brands. Its sneakers offer something different, with the brand’s collaborations often dipping into various points of culture, from working with the likes of Westside Gunn to Footpatrol. Now, Saucony is celebrating the rebirth of its retro-inspired Trainer 80 silhouette — and it’s doing so by honoring two London-based communities that are pushing culture forward in their own rights: radio station and community hub Balamii and community running collective, Your Friendly Runners.

Since Saucony’s launch, the brand has prided itself as a brand that allows its clientele to enjoy sneakers that will enable them to run long distances while also being suited as fashion statements for streetwear enthusiasts worldwide. However, whether Saucony’s sneakers end up on the feet of avid runners or ravers, one core piece of DNA is shared: community.

This is encapsulated more than ever in Saucony’s Trainer 80. The shoe was first released in 1978 and integrated high-density EVA foam to offer a fresh take on the classic running shoe. Its future-facing design removed the dated cardboard layer between the sole and upper to deliver a softer, more responsive feel. The classic shoe has now returned with its retro aesthetics intact, complemented with new and modern details.

The Trainer 80’s new modernized twist has been embodied by Balamii and Your Friendly Runners, who continue to share Saucony’s mantra of “Run As One.” Commenting on the release of Trainer 80, James Browning from Balamii said: “This project with Saucony represents everything Balamii stands for – community and talent. We are proud to have brought together these incredible emerging artists for a campaign that celebrates heritage style for a new generation.”

“Everything we do at YFR sits at the intersection of running and community, so it felt like a natural alignment to feature in the launch of Saucony’s timeless Trainer 80,” Matt Horrocks from Your Friendly Runners added. “It’s exciting to bring back a true OG style that still feels super relevant today.”

You can take a closer look at the new Trainer 80 from Saucony and it’s corresponding campaign — directed by Joe Howat — above and the sneaker is available to purchase now via the official Saucony website.
