DJI Has Launched an All-In-One Vlogging-Focused Foldable Drone – DJI Flip
It weighs less than 249g (8.7oz) and might just fit in your jacket pocket.
DJI has announced it latest flying camera, DJI Flip, a vlogging-focused device that it says is the “first drone to feature foldable, full-coverage propeller guards for ultimate flight safety.”
The DJI Flip marks the first in a new series of “all-in-one” drones from the Chinese aerial photography and videography experts. Weighing less than 249g (8.7oz), the compact drone has been designed for maximum portability and measures in at just 136×62×165 mm when folded – it’s small enough to be almost pocketable.
Proving that size doesn’t always matters, the DJI Flip features an impressive specs list which includes a 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor that’s capable of capturing 48 megapixel still photos and high-resolution 4K videos. In terms of stills, the drone can shoot up to 7 frames in burst mode, and can capture images in both JPG and DNG (RAW) formats.
Video frame rates can reach 100fps in 4K when shooting in landscape, but the DJI Flip also offers a vertical shooting mode aimed at mobile content creators – this, however, is limited to 2.7K as a maximum resolution and 30fps at the higher end of its frame rate, owing to the sensor cropping the video to fit the format. It can also capture both “Normal” MP4 video, with the footage processed in-camera, as well as the raw D-Log M format that offers professionals – or those just wanting full control of their videos look and feel – an unprocessed file.
Its lens has a 82.1° field of view with a large f/1.7 aperture that, when paired with the drone’s maximum 6400 ISO, promises decent performance in low-light conditions.
DJI says that its new drone “combines creative tools like AI subject tracking and intelligent shooting modes with safety features like our latest foldable propeller guards,” adding that features like it automatic braking were included to make it “easier than ever for people to capture stunning aerial footage no matter their level of photography or drone expertise.”
