Royal Enfield, the world’s oldest motorcycle brand, is entering the electric vehicle (EV) era, announcing its first ever electric motorbike – the Flying Flea.

The Indian motorcycle company – originally founded in England in 1901 – has teamed up with technology giant Qualcomm to create a custom version of the chipmaker’s “Car-to-Cloud Platform” operating system for bikes, resulting in an experience designed around and focused entirely on two-wheelers. The partnership between Royal Enfield and Qualcomm will also see the launch of a brand new chip, the Snapdragon QWM2290, which makes its debut in the Flying Flea.

During a roundtable at CES 2025, Royal Enfield’s Mario Alvisi told Hypebeast that the partnership between the two brands is the “perfect marriage between authentic design and cutting edge technology.” Alvisi went on to say that one of his goals is to make Royal Enfield’s EV bikes “an appreciating asset,” something he feels will be made easier thanks to the all over-the-air updates the technology will , allowing the motorcycle brand to constantly update and improve the bike remotely.

The new bike features a touch screen display in the center of the handlebars, circular in design so as to feel familiar to riders. It will connect to a rider’s phone through 4G, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, offering a seamless and consistent connection “through a secure multi-modal interaction.” The rider’s phone can also be used to both unlock and start the bike, and it will feature five pre-set ride modes that users will be able to customize. And, although the bike’s operating system is built around a version of Android, the bike be fully compatible with both iOS and Android.

There isn’t much information available on the bike at this time – we don’t know the motor power (or equivalent horse power), and the price has not bee revealed. Stay tuned for updates as we have them.
