Although not a golf brand in name, Southern California-based headwear company melin has become popular among golfers who appreciate the obsession with functionality. Ultimately, a quality hat speaks for itself. This is what has allowed melin to assemble a roster of ambassadors which includes professional skateboarders, wakeboarders and motocross racers. Now the brand is welcoming Costa Mesa-born Jake Knapp, a 30-year-old pro golfer who broke out last season, to the team.
“I could not be more excited to partner up with melin. I’ve been wearing their hats for a long time so joining the team was a no-brainer,” said Knapp. The 88th ranked player in the world will continue wearing Original Penguin, who he signed with at the beginning of last season, from the neck down while incorporating melin headwear into both his on and off course style.
Co-founder and president of melin Brian McDonell noted Knapp’s California roots, dedicated work ethic and relaxed streetwear style when asked about why sponsoring Knapp made sense. And although melin hasn’t marketed itself to golfers up this point, the partnership with Knapp opens the door to enter the golf category going forward.
melin notes to be on the lookout for “limited-edition drops that celebrate this milestone” over the coming year as the big hitting Knapp competes in his second full season on the PGA TOUR.
