Located in El Cuyo, an area in the Mexican state of Yucatán, NOD Studio has unveiled a residential project called The Trillium Awakening.

The unconventional design comprises a core structure with three leaf-life areas radiating from the center at differing heights. The rounded and curvilinear structure gives the impression of a natural formation in dialogue with the surrounding environment. Drawing inspiration from natural beauty and modern design methods, the final result is an otherworldly retreat hidden away from the built environment.

From a winding gravel path that leads visitors to the front yard, stepping stones floating over a surrounding water feature pave the way into the home. The central stairwell, which greets visitors upon entry is topped with a bamboo dome, mirroring the bamboo supports at the base of the structure.

The primary and secondary bedrooms are elevated above the ground floor, each with private bathrooms. However, each bedroom connects to a shared e indoor-outdoor common area, containing lounge chairs and a swimming pool.

By relying on natural cross ventilation and passive lighting, the designers reduce negative impacts on the surrounding environment, which offers panoramic jungle views. The surrounding water feature and pool also help to keep the area cool by regulating temperatures.
