Volkswagen of America has brought a piece of its German heritage to U.S. shores with the limited release of its famous VW Gewürz Ketchup Brand. The condiment, known for dressing the beloved VW currywurst, became available through Volkswagen’s DriverGear merchandise portal but was quickly claimed by eager fans.

Volkswagen has been producing this ketchup since 1996, initially pairing it with its currywurst sausage, which was first created in 1973 for employees at its Wolfsburg plant. The ketchup is renowned for its unique flavor profile, designed specifically for the bite-sized sausage dish. Though commonly associated with the automotive scene, Volkswagen’s food products have a dedicated following among fans, particularly those who have visited the brand’s global headquarters.

The ketchup’s U.S. release coincides with Volkswagen’s 75th anniversary celebrations, which highlight stories of passionate fans like Jamie Orr, who has been bringing bottles of the condiment back to the U.S. for years. Fans who missed out on the limited edition sale will have another chance to taste the ketchup at ChainFEST in Los Angeles on October 5, 2024.
