Marshmallow Laser Feast has joined forces with Johnnie Walker to explore the innovation within glassmaking, creating an installation at the London Design Festival titled “Liquid Light”.

Located inside The Old Selfridges Hotel, the installation is made up of hundreds of blown glass droplets suspended seemingly in mid-air. “We wanted to create an experience that celebrates the delicate balance between strength and fragility, and fully immerses audiences in a rich history of design: a story written in glass,” says Barnaby Steel, creative director at Marshmallow Laser Feast.

Brought to life through the use of light and shadows, the static installation becomes a dynamic and immersive experience for visitors, accompanied by a musical score.

“Seen a certain way, storytelling originates as shaped breath, undulations in air pressure leave the lips to arrive at an ear as language,” Steel continued. “The glass blowing process has its own language, gravity, liquid glass and human breath meet in a frozen form, like words suspended in time and space.”

For Johnnie Walker, the installation features themes linked to their landmark launch, also taking place during the design festival – a new whisky bottle, which they claim to be the “world’s lightest” at just 180 grams. “This new, lightweight bottle is a thing of exquisite beauty; but more importantly, it demonstrates what is
possible when it comes to lightweighting glass,” said Jennifer English, Johnnie Walker’s Global Brand Director
