Lil Wayne has finally broke his silence on his Super Bowl Halftime Show snub at the upcoming LIX championship in his hometown of New Orleans. Kendrick Lamar was announced as the 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show headliner earlier this week and he even dropped a new song amidst the internet’s debate on who should be performing.

In a video posted to his Instagram, Weezy posted a heartfelt conversation to his fans about hearing that Kendrick got the gig over him. He started the video by explaining his need to process the situation, “Forgive me for the delay. I had to get strength enough to do this without breaking. Thank you to every voice, every opinion, all the love and support out there. Your words turned into arms and held me up when I tried to fall back.” Lil Wayne was open about his feelings about not being chosen, even stating, “That hurt a lot. I blame myself for not being mentally prepared for a letdown. For just automatically mentally putting myself in that position, like someone told me that was my position.” Since the Super Bowl LIX would be taking place in the city he was born and raised and made his name as a rapper, the connection was deeper for Lil Wayne, and therefore was a greater source of pain, “I thought there was nothing better than that spot, that stage, and that platform in my city. It broke me. I’m just trying to put me back together. But, my God, how you all have helped me.”

Nicki Minaj took to X earlier this week to defend Weezy stating, “You don’t know the half of what Lil Wayne has done for me & others. Wayne had Drake & I on his tour w/no papers signed. He was on all of my mixtapes w/no papers signed. This man has literally changed the FACE of hip hop. The hair too. IYKYK. He inspired so many to tat their faces & get locks. Inspired your faves to wanna be a great MC. He never was in this for the money. It’s always been for the love of music.”

In the past, Lil Wayne has always expressed the desire to play the Halftime Show over multiple years. Super Bowl LIX is set to take place on February 9, 2025. Watch what Weezy had to say in full below.
