GoPro's Latest HERO13 Black and HERO Action Cameras Are Out Now
The new HERO weighs just 86g and can capture video in full 4K.
GoPro has announced its latest devices – HERO13 Black and HERO – a brand new action camera duo that caters for all price points.
The brand’s flagship device is back for its thirteenth iteration, with the aptly titled HERO13 Black building on the series’ Emmy-award-winning credentials to deliver the best action camera GoPro has ever produced. The HERO13 Black is capable of shooting 5.3K quality video at 60 frames per second, promising crystal clear footage in any situation. It can also capture slow-motion video better than any HERO before it, with the ability to record 400 frames per second in 720p quality for what the brand’s calling “13x Burst Slo-Mo”. Users can also capture higher-quality slow-motion video at slightly lower frame rates, with 360 frames per second possible at 900p and 120 frames per second at a the full 5.3K resolution.
Speaking of video quality, the HERO13 Black is capable of capturing video in the hybrid log-gamma (HLG) format. This should appeal to professionals and prosumers alike, providing an opportunity to capture action in a format that allows for more control in post-production. The battery on the new HERO13 Black has also seen improvements compared to the previous generation, seeing a 10% increase in capacity the brand says will apply in all weather conditions. Additionally, connectivity has improved and the HERO13 Black now features WiFi 6 technology for “up to 40%” faster content transfer speeds. As well as all of this, the new camera features Magnetic Latch Mounting for ease of use and accessory switching, improved GPS functionality and can be used with swappable lenses and lens attachments from GoPro’s ‘HB-Series’ that includes an ultra-wide, anamorphic and a macro lens, as well as four different ND filters.
Releasing alongside the new flagship model is the HERO, a tiny action camera GoPro is calling “the smallest, lightest, simplest to use and lowest cost 4K camera ever with a screen.” The HERO weighs just 86 grams and almost half the mass of its bigger brother the HERO13 Black (46% less, to be precise). It’s waterproof up tp 16ft (5m) and features both touch screen controls along with a single button used to activate recording.
HERO can capture slow-motion video at 2x speed in full 4K, as well as still photos in 12 megapixels. Its battery, whilst small, has been optimized for it and lasts for 100 minutes between charges.
You can grab the GoPro HERO13 Black ($399) and HERO ($199) now via the brand’s website.
