Apple Unveils AirPods 4, iPhone 16 Lineup and More at Annual Reveal Event
Along with the slimmer Apple Watch Series 10 and a new finish for the Ultra 2.
Every year as September rolls around, Apple announces the latest and greatest iPhone, along with a few other new pieces of hardware that’ll be hitting store shelves. The 2024 installment of the event was called “It’s Glowtime” and was live-streamed from the Steve Jobs Theater in Apple Park.
As expected, Apple announced the new iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus. The standard version of the phone comes with a 6.1-inch screen, while the Plus features a 6.7-inch screen. New to the iPhone is the Action button, which was previously exclusive to Pro models and can be customized to a user’s personal needs. Both the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are powered by the A18 chip, which powers Apple’s new Visual Intelligence. The user simply points their camera at something and Visual Intelligence can teach them a thing or two about it. New colorways in the lineup are “Teal,” “Pink” and “Ultramarine.”
The iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max are also on the way, with 6.3 and 6.9-inch screens, respectively. Available in “Black,” “White,” “Natural” and “Desert,” the advanced models are basically designed for Apple Intelligence, the in-house AI system Apple announced at WWDC earlier this year. Using the A18 Pro, the phones are faster with better cameras, including a 12MP telephoto lens and an ultrawide camera.
Phones aside, Apple has delivered the AirPods 4, which largely have the same silhouette, though they claim it’s a more comfortable fit. The H2 chip functions for improved audio quality and spatial audio. Active noise cancellation isn’t included by default but will be made available for an additional price.
On the watch side, Apple has launched the lighter, thinner Apple Watch Series 10. The screen is larger with a rounder shape and, according to the company, 40% brighter. Most of the improvements to the watch come in the form of software features being rolled out with Apple Intelligence, such as a health tool that tests for sleep apnea.
While some were expecting the Apple Watch Ultra 3, the company instead rolled out a new finish for the Ultra 2. The rugged outdoors watch now comes in a sleek “Satin Black” titanium finish.
