Kerry Washington Leads an All-Black, All-Female Army Corps in Tyler Perry's Netflix Wartime Drama 'The Six Triple Eight'

Netflix has delivered a first look at Tyler Perry‘s upcoming wartime drama starring Kerry Washington.
Titled The Six Triple Eight, the official logline of the film reads that it “is inspired by the first and only Women’s Army Corps unit of color to serve overseas in WWII. Given an extraordinary mission and united in their determination, these unsung heroes delivered hope and shattered barriers.” In the film, Washington plays Major Charity Adams, who is seen in the railer, leading and commanding the battalion of women soldiers. She can be heard saying, “I am giving you my best, and you will give me yours. A lot of people do not want us to succeed. We have the most to prove,” before adding, “Welcome to the Women’s Army Corp.” The Six Triple Eight features a star-studded cast that includes Oprah Winfrey, Susan Sarandon, Ebony Obsidian, Dean Norris, Sam Waterston, Milauna Jackson, Kylie Jefferson, Shanice Shantay, Sarah Jeffery, Pepi Sonuga, Moriah Brown, Jeanté Godlock, Jay Reeves, Jeffery Johnson, Baadja-Lyne Odums, Donna Biscoe, Gregg Sulkin and Scott Daniel Johnson.
The film is a commentary on the historical 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, nicknamed “Six Triple Eight,” where 855 women were led by Major Charity Adams. A self-sufficient unit, most of the group worked as postal clerks and some other were cooks, mechanics and other supporting positions during WWII. The film is Perry’s third feature release in 2024 and is The Six Triple Eight is slated to premiere in theaters on December 6 before hitting Netflix on December 20. Watch the trailer above.
