Just last week Marvel and Robert Downey Jr. made an announcement that shocked the comic world. Announcing his return to the MCU to play Victor von Doom aka Doctor Doom, the actor surprised crowds at Comic-Con as he confirms he will be in the upcoming Avengers films from the Russo Brothers.

The Russo Brothers previously directed two of the most successful films for Marvel with Infinity War and Endgame. The brothers are also returning for the two new Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Variety recently reported that sources close to the studio have said that the brothers will be receiving $80 million USD to direct both films. However, RDJ is expected to make “significantly more” for his return. The Russo brothers’ deal is not expected to include back-end compensation but it contains performance escalators that kick in when the films hit the $750 million and $1 billion USD thresholds. The brothers are also expected to produce the film.

As for Downey Jr., his deal reportedly includes private jet travel, dedicated security and a whole “trailer encampment.” Sources close to the production claims that he is the highest paid MCU member.
